Let's Talk Business: Back to School

It’s that time of year and a perfect opportunity to recognize the importance of this local delivery system.

It’s back to school month and of course I’m talking about education. We are so fortunate to have a dynamic and effective education system in place for pre-K through higher education.

Since 1873, students and faculty alike have made their way to the campus of Southeast Missouri State University to begin a new semester and a life changing experience. This year will be no different. On behalf of the regional business and professional community, we want to welcome you and express our appreciation for all you bring to strengthen our area including entertainment options with athletics and the arts, economic development impact through student and faculty dollars, and intellectual capital boosts that enhance our area. Our partnerships with the University are numerous and our relationships run deep.

The Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center serves both regional high school students and adults. The Center offers many targeted programs and specific training classes.

The Cape College Center serves high school graduates moving on to the next level. And, of course, our local Pre-K through 12 options are many and deliver award winning educational experiences. Public, private, and parochial systems are all available.

Yes, we are fortunate in so many ways to have this education system in place as part of the very fabric of our area.

John Mehner is the former President and CEO of the Cape Chamber.
