Exposition: Art For The Health Of It Gallery Is A Soothing Agent For Patients At Southeast Hospital

'Carol and Maggie at Mt. Helix' by Mike Tenholder

Since June, the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri and SoutheastHEALTH have been jointly hosting their 27th annual art installation at the hospital. “Art for the Health of It” is located in a transport hallway, and features over 40 pieces by artists from across the region.

Director of the arts council, Sara Steffens says not only does it add color to the walls, but it also serves as a great healing and soothing agent for the patients who pass through.

“Every time I hang it up each year in the hallway, doctors and nurses pass by and are like, ‘It’s that time of year again, it’s that time of year again!’” says Steffens.

She adds that it’s both a nice change for patients and the contributing artists. A few local names you can expect to find in the gallery are Mike Tennholder, photographer Tom Neumeyer, and oil artist Linda Buis.

“They really enjoy it and are able to do something good with their artwork,” says Steffens.

The gallery will have a closing reception at Southeast Hospital on Sunday, September 8 from 2 to 4 p.m.
