Exposition: Aerial Dancers In 'Paper Doll Militia' Are Pioneers In Original Circus Theatre

Southeast Missouri State University

The Paper Doll Militia is an international theatre company who has earned the reputation of being pioneers in original circus theater. Based in Edinburgh and Los Angeles, the aerial dancers incorporate acrobatic work and storytelling in each theatrically driven performance.

They'll beperforming at the River Campus this Friday as part their most recent tour, 'Warped.' It will be one of their first visits to the Midwest.

According to dance program coordinator, Hilary Peterson and adjunct dance faculty, Lauren Jones, they create their own apparatuses for their performances, providing more than the traditional silks or a trapeze.

Jones says for their performance on March 1, they will be incorporating a large gear they made out of a clock.

"I don't know how they'll be hanging off of it," said Jones. "It'll be interesting to see what happens with this particular show."
