Southeast Missouri sophomore Jonno Engelking claimed Second-Team All-America honors with a 10th place finish in the javelin at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Wednesday, June 6, 2018.

Engelking, the 2018 Ohio Valley Conference Male Co-Field Athlete of the Year and outdoor javelin gold medalist, was among 24 competitors in the event. He recorded a throw of 223-4 (68.07m) in the first flight.

Engelking is SEMO's first All-American in the javelin in 28 years (Bob Cahoon, 1990). He also became only the fourth javelin All-American in the program's outdoor track & field history.

He is the first All-American for the Redhawks since Kevin Farley in 2016, when earned first team honors in discus and second-team honors in shot put.

Meanwhile, Senior Richard Vinson closed out his Redhawks career by joining Engelking in the top 20. Vinson came in at 19th with a 208-7 (63.58m) mark.

Both Engelking and Vinson qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field national meet for the first time in their careers, SEMO was one of four schools with multiple competitors in the men's javelin along with Mississippi State, UCLA and Wichita State.

Their performances continue a strong tradition of excellence for the OVC Track & Field program, which has had 10 All-American performances since joining the Division I ranks. In addition, the SEMO track program has claimed a total of 27 Ohio Valley Conference championships between its men’s and women’s teams since joining the conference in 1992.
