Adam Wainwright pitched 7 strong innings while Matt Holliday, Yadier Molina and Jon Jay drove in two runs apiece to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to an 8-3 win over the San Francisco Giants.

The Cardinals now have a commanding 3 to 1 lead in the National League Championship Series. St. Louis is one win away from a second consecutive trip to the World Series. No National League team has won consecutive World Series titles since the Cincinnati Reds in 1975 and 1976.

The winner of the St. Louis-San Francisco series will face the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers swept the New York Yankees in four games to win the American League pennant.
