The Cape Girardeau Public Library recently added a remote locker system allowing residents of South Cape to access library materials without traveling to the library building. The system was made possible by a CARES Act grant that is administered by the State Library of Missouri. Cape Library Director Katie Hill says the system is called LitLocker and has been installed at the Shawnee Park Center in Cape Girardeau.
"A LitLocker, the name comes from literature locker, LitLocker, and it's a remote locker system. It's a vending machine, basically, it's kinda like a Redbox but for library materials," Hill said.
She said patrons can place holds on items and pick them at the drive-thru like they do now or they can choose to pick them up at the LitLocker.
The Litlocker is installed and became operational on Wednesday, November 18. It is located in the lobby of the Shawnee Park Center in Cape Girardeau.
