Cape Girardeau City Attorney Cunningham Elected Pres. of Missouri Municipal Attorneys Association

Cape Girardeau City Attorney Eric Cunningham will serve as president of the Missouri Municipal Attorneys Association for the 2018-2019 term.

Elected July 21 by the membership of the organization, Cunningham says while in office, he hopes more emphasis will be placed on legislation being considered by the Missouri Legislature pertaining to cities and municipal courts, specifically Senate Bills 5 and 572.

“Our goal, really, is to not only educate our membership, but to try and retain local control of a number of issues for cities and counties in the state, and to try to work against the tendency toward having a lot of those things centralized in the state government,” says Cunningham.

Cunningham has worked in the city attorney’s office for 25 years, serving in his current position since 1995, and as prosecuting attorney two years prior.

He says he’s honored by the confidence the association has placed in him, and he looks forward to working with city attorneys from across the state of Missouri.
