All About Cape: S'mores and Craft Shows

Visit Cape

Let’s take a moment to appreciate s’mores. This simple treat combines all the textures of a great dessert:  warm, gooey marshmallow; a graham cracker’s satisfying crunch; and the sweetness of a thick chocolate chunk.  Did you know the first s’more recipe dates to the 1920s, where it was called a “Graham Cracker Sandwich?” It wasn’t until 1927 that a Girl Scout handbook referred to the campfire delight as “Some More” – a snack meant to feed 16 hungry scouts!

To get your own authentic s’more, attend the Fall Family Festival on Sunday, November 17 from 3-6 p.m. at the Shawnee Park Center.  There’ll be hayrides, a bonfire, weenie roast and more.  Bundle up! With so many activities, your family could be there all day.

And don’t forget the holidays are right around the corner.  Have you started decorating yet?  Find unique gifts and décor that energizes your Christmas spirit at the Arts & Crafts Extravaganza, The Crafts Gifts & Collectibles Show and the River Valley Craft Fair on November 23 and 24 right here in Cape Girardeau.  The Osage Center, Show Me Center, Arena Building and Notre Dame High School will be filled with creative items and home baked goods. You will need an entire day or two to explore all the charming and exceptional handmade items on par with Santa’s elves’ craftsmanship.  It’s the best way to celebrate the magic of the season and invite it into your home.
