All About Cape: Perfect Week for a Staycation

Visit Cape

It’s shaping up to be the perfect week for some me time or girl time or a staycation.  Whatever you call it, it’s time to relax.  Even if you’ve been in Cape a while, use this week as a chance to see something new – like a tourist in your own town.

Americans top two summer activities, according to the National Recreation and Park Association, are having a picnic and going for a walk or hike.  To say Cape Girardeau is an ideal spot for both is an understatement.  With more than 20 parks throughout the city, you’ve got plenty to choose from:  the rugged Trail of Tears State Park, ultra-kid-friendly Cape County Park, scenic Riverfront Park or the Old Bridge Overlook and many more.  This Friday, July 19, Capaha Park becomes a theater with a showing of “The Sandlot” at 9 p.m.

The third summer activity on the list, going to the beach, is a favorite of 40 percent of Americans.  There’s no ocean in the heartland, but there are other ways to beat the heat, like a water park.  An on Thursday, July 18th Cape Splash is no kids allowed from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The sound of screaming toddlers is replaced with music.  Plus, food and drinks will be served.  It’s the last Adult Beach Bash of the summer, so grab your sunglasses and join the party.

But it’s not a true vacation or staycation in Cape without some shopping.  From downtown boutiques to the mall, Cape has anything you want.  And on Saturday, July 20th, several favorite local products will be at the Osage Centre for the Women’s Expo from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It’s girl time at its finest.  Sorry, guys.
