All About Cape: Live Concerts, Swimming and Sightseeing

Visit Cape

If you were to survey 100 people about their favorite summer activities, chances are live concerts, swimming and sightseeing would be mentioned. And this week, Cape’s got all three.

First up, the Show Me Center welcomes a band that was nearly sued by the Chicago Transit Authority. It was all about copyright, as the band was called the Chicago Transit Authority before shortening its name to Chicago. This classic “25 or 6 to 4” band has seen albums in the top 40 for six consecutive decades. Discover what keeps Chicago on top at the Show Me Center on Tuesday, May 21 at 8 p.m.

Then it’s time to cannonball into summer when Cape Splash opens on Saturday, May 25. I can’t think of a better way to welcome the season than a trip down a 265-foot free fall slide or 259-foot triple drop slide. Not a daredevil? Lounge by the lazy river, or hang out on the sun deck and work on your tan.

Memorial Day weekend is the perfect opportunity to honor fallen soldiers. During the Civil War, the Battle of Cape Girardeau saw an estimated 337 casualties. On Monday, May 27, Fort D will echo with the sound of rifles and cannons as men clad in Civil War uniforms pay tribute to the fallen – in the Civil War and other American conflicts. I invite you to visit Fort D or drive through the Avenue of Flags at Cape County Park North, taking a few moments to remember what this holiday means.
