The fair is in Arena Park this week, which means carnival rides, farm animals, live entertainment and all the fried food you can handle.
Did you know that the first time an airplane appeared in Cape Girardeau was at the 1911 fair, when J.C. Mars flew an aircraft known as the Red Devil around the city?
This year’s SEMO District Fair is sure to bring the same sort of thrill and amazement it brought more than 100 years ago. The grandstand lineup offers a wide range of artists and musical styles. Tuesday, September 10 features Christian music, with Southern gospel icon Jason Crabb and contemporary worship artist Francesca Battistelli.
Then on Wednesday, September 11, classic country band Sawyer Brown of “Some Girls Do” fame takes the stage. Rounding out the music on Thursday, September 11 is Little River Band, a classic rock group formed in Australia, with consistent hits, like “Help is on its Way.”
When you’re not rocking out at the grandstand, a walk around the fairgrounds means antique tractors, jugglers, wildlife show, cows, horses, quilts, giant veggies, painting and more. Recapture the joy of childhood with a trip on the Tilt-A-Whirl or Ferris wheel. As pretty as Cape is at ground level, seeing it from high up offers a whole new perspective.
While you’re there, make sure to indulge in some fair food, like homemade corn dogs and fried Oreos. Here’s to the great taste of summer – before the leaves start to change.
