You may not have noticed the beautiful Magnolia trees near our historic Old St. Vincent’s Church but they are blooming and have a refreshing aroma. When you see the excitement that the trees bring to visitors of the area it takes on a whole new appreciation.
There are times when we need that little bit of inspiration mid-week and we have just the thing. The Cape Girardeau Municipal Band fills the air with music at the Capaha Park Dan Cotner Amphitheater. Bring your lawn chair or blanket and get comfortable. The free musical concert will take you away for a couple of hours and as you bask it the orchestras sounds. There is a trombonist that will be playing his 79th year with the band, Mr. Dan Cotner. To him we say “thank you” for giving Cape Girardeau such a precious gift!
A bit of history will dock at the riverfront this month. John Fitch and James Rumsey labored toward the use of steam power in water transport of goods and people. Until then, goods or cargo made its way down stream on the Mississippi River on flatboats or keelboats. In fact most movement that took place on the river was predominantly one direction. The Queen of the Mississippi and the American Queen will dock in Cape Girardeau in July. You can get a glimpse of travel from days go by brought up to modern day standards.
