All About Cape: Celebrate Mom on Mother's Day

Visit Cape

First, an important reminder. Listen close because this message will ensure that you have a pleasant weekend.  Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 12!

Even though Mother’s Day wasn’t an official holiday in the United States until 1914, its roots lie in ancient Greece. Special days were set aside to honor Rhea, the goddess of fertility – celebration of motherhood.
Not sure how to celebrate your mom? I have a few ideas. How about a historic adventure together – a kind of time machine? (DeLorean not included.) Visit the regal Victorian era at the Glenn House, an intricate architectural masterpiece adorned with period furniture. Or immerse yourself in the world of Louis Lorimier’s trading post at the Red House Interpretive Center. Or take a trip on the St. Louis Iron Mountain Railway. This weekend’s themes are: a Bonnie and Clyde train robbery and a murder mystery dinner theater.

If your mom isn’t a history buff, no worries. The tried-and-true favorites still work: a spa day or a movie night at Cape West Cinema.  Or treat her to a latte at a local coffeehouse, and take a stroll along the Mississippi River Front Park.

However you choose to celebrate, whether it’s a card, a phone call or an adventure, take the time to let your mom know she is loved.
