Barbara Herbert

Host - Afternoon Classics

Barbara Herbert is a graduate of the University of Memphis. She joined the on-air staff at KRCU in March of 1995 with her program "Sunday Night at the Opera." It airs at 7 p.m. Barbara has made numerous trips to New York to attend the Metropolitan Opera.  She has traveled to St. Louis and Washington DC to see various operas. Her trips to Italy have included performances at the Arena di Verona, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Teatro del'opera in Rome and the opera festival in Martina Franca.

In 2001 Barbara became music programmer and host for Afternoon Classics.

She is married to Tom Herbert, a retired dentist. They live on a small farm with their horses and three cats.

Ways to Connect

Students and community members with a musical talent have a chance to audition for the Southeast Missouri State University Department of Music’s production of Wolfgang Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” from 3-6 p.m. Sept. 3 in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall at the River Campus.

The Southeast Missouri Music Academy will present its 13th annual “Standing Ovation” benefit concert at 4 p.m. Nov. 11 in the Robert F. and Gertrude L. Shuck Music Recital Hall at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus.

Featured vocalists from the Department of Music will be Leslie Jones and Lori Shaffer performing “Leslie and Lori Do Lerner and Loewe.” Sara Edgerton and Paul Thompson will also perform some Chinese music for cello and piano, and Patrick Rafferty will share some guitar music.
