Electric Cars Buzz Through Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KRCU) - The second annual Electric Car Conversion Convention began this Thursday in Cape Girardeau.

Enthusiasts from across the globe gathered in the Show Me Center to show off their battery operated cars, trucks, and even boats.

According to convention producers, they expect to have forty-five cars on display this year: twice the turnout of last year.

Jack Rickard is the producer of the convention. He says they expect to see nearly 200 people from 12 countries.

Crew Return Birds Point Center Crevasse To 55 Feet

WYATT, MO (KRCU) - Construction crews completed Phase One work at the Birds Point-New Madrid Floodway center crevasse on Tuesday. Phase One brings the levee back up to 55 feet on the gage at Cairo, Illinois. 

Army Corps of Engineers Spokesperson Jim Pogue says the upper crevasse should be returned to 55 feet by the end of this week, while Phase One on the lower crevasse will be complete by November. 

Still No Decision In Union’s Case Against Illinois Closure Plans

CAIRO, IL (KRCU/The Cairo Citizen) - Lawyers from the state of Illinois and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) concluded three days of hearings Wednesday in Alexander County Court.

 Judge Charles Cavaness did not issue a decision.

 AFSCME is seeking a permanent injunction to block the state from transferring inmates from the Tamms Correctional Center, Dwight Correctional Center and other facilities in Illinois.
