Event Description

Michael Menchaca, "A Alguien Le Falta Un Tornillo", screenprint 2019, via http://ambosladosint

Opening First Friday, October 4th from 5-9pm, Catapult Press will feature a new Exhibition, Tejanos: The Border Crossed Us, a printmaking portfolio exchange organized by J. Leigh Garcia, Adjunct Professor at Pensacola State College and Wendi Valladares, artist. In their words, "The complex history between Texans and Mexicans has resulted in a melding of these two cultures or what is known today as Tejanos. While many Mexican-Americans identify as Chicano/Chicana/Chicanx, Tejano/Tejana/Tejanx is a term specifically for Mexican-Americans who call Texas their home. For many Tejanos, their familial lineage in present-day Texas dates back to before the Texas Revolution, hence the famous line, 'we never crossed the border, the border crossed us.'" The exhibition will run through November 7th, 2019.
