Two-Minute Drill: SEMO Football To Host FCS Playoff Game

Southeast Athletics

The FCS Playoffs are coming to Cape Girardeau! For just the second time in school history, the Southeast Missouri Football team has earned a spot in the FCS Playoffs, and they will be hosting a playoff game for the first time ever at Houck Field.

The Redhawks earned an at-large berth into the 24-team bracket and will host the Stony Brook Seawolves tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Houck Field. The team learned of its selection last Sunday during the FCS Playoff Selection Show televised live on ESPNU. They watched the selection as a team at the Rosengarten Football Complex, and celebrated when the school’s name was displayed as the second-to-last team to be revealed.

The Redhawks opponent, Stony Brook, is ranked 15th in the country by both the FCS Coaches and the media polls. The Seawolves finished the season with a 7-4 record from the Colonial Athletic Association – widely regarded as the best conference in FCS Football. The Seawolves will travel to Cape Girardeau all the way from Stony Brook, New York, located on Long Island a little less than 60 miles from New York City.

While the Redhawks have been preparing ever since Sunday’s Selection Show, they collected a number of postseason Ohio valley Conference Awards, which were announced by the league Tuesday. Zach Hall was named OVC Defensive Player of the Year, Marquis Terry was named Offensive Player of the Year, and head coach Tom Matukewicz was named the Roy Kidd Coach of the Year. It is the first time in school history where SEMO won the league's Coach, Offensive and Defefensive Player of the Year awards in the same season.

In addition to Terry and Hall, quarterback Daniel Santacaterina, offensive tackle Drew Forbes, and defensive back Bydarrius Knighten also earned first-team All-OVC honors. Wide receiver Kristian Wilkerson, center Lucas Orchard, defensive tackle Clarence Thornton, and linebacker Justin Swift earned second-team All-OVC honors.

The Redhawks FCS Playoff game vs. Stony Brook will be tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Houck Field. Tickets are available at www.GoSoutheast.com.
