Two-Minute Drill: Redhawks Earn OVC Weekly Honors

Southeast Athletics

On the volleyball court, junior Annie Wehrheim was tabbed OVC Offensive Player and Newcomer of the Week. Wehrheim led the Redhawks offensively this past weekend with 40 total kills (5.00 kills/set) on a .260 hitting clip as Southeast posted wins over SIUE and Eastern Illinois to clinch a berth in the OVC Tournament.

Southeast Missouri quarterback Daniel Santacaterina and running back Marquis Terry earned Ohio Valley Conference for their performance in last Saturday’s home win over Tennessee State. Santacaterina won his third OVC Newcomer of the Week award and Terry secured his second Offensive Player of the Week accolade this season as the Redhawks improved to 7-2 on the season and climbed to 19th in the country in the FCS Coaches’ Poll.

Santacaterina, matched a season-high four touchdown and completed 22-of-36 passes for 306 yards. Santacaterina has now thrown for 300 or more yards in four of his last five starts. He enters this week ranked fifth nationally in passing touchdowns (23), eighth in passing efficiency (156.6), and is top 25 in four other categories.

Meanwhile, Terry accounted for 183 all-purpose yards and a pair of touchdowns against the Tigers. In the process, Terry went over the 1,000-yard rushing mark this season (one of just seven FCS players to reach that mark this season) and the 2000-yard rushing plateau for his career (ranking eighth in school history in just two years). A candidate for the Walter Payton Award, Terry ranks sixth nationally in all-purpose yards (157.0/game), seventh in rushing yards (1,021), ninth in total touchdowns (12), and among the top 25 in four other categories.

SEMO Football has won a total of 13 OVC weekly awards through nine games this year, the most of any OVC team.

The Redhawks will play at Murray State tomorrow at 11 a.m. The game will be featured as the OVC Game of the Week on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app.
