Two-Minute Drill: Hall Earns National Recognition

Southeast Athletics

Southeast Missouri junior inside linebacker Zach Hall was all over the field in last week’s season opening game at Arkansas State. After recording a career-high 22 tackles, Hall was recognized as the National Defensive Player of the Week by STATS, as well as Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Hall’s 22 tackles tied for third-most in a game in school history and are the most by any player in all divisions of college football so far this year. Hall had nine solo tackles and assisted on 13 others, as well as a forced a fumble.

The Redhawks Football team hosts the University of Dayton tomorrow at Houck Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. and fans will want to get to their seats early to see a flyover by a B-2 Bomber during the national anthem, sponsored by United Airlines.

The Redhawk cross country teams also turned heads last week in their season-opening races. Senior Sydney O'Brien placed first at the Saluki Invitational as the women's cross country team won the team title with 19 points at the five-team race held at the SIU Cross Country Course. Redhawks women took the podium with each of the top-three finishes, and six of the top 10. Southeast's men placed second place in the men’s race.

Redhawks cross country returns to action next Friday, and Redhawk fans will want to save the date for Saturday, October 27, when Southeast hosts the OVC Cross Country Championships at the Osage Center in Cape Girardeau.
