Marston Aluminum Smelter To Be Reopened As Magnitude 7 Metals

An aluminum smelter will be reopening in Marston, Missouri.

On Friday, plans were announced by Magnitude 7 Metals (M7M) to create nearly 450 jobs at the former St. Jude Industrial Park site, which closed in 2016 due to bankruptcy. According to a press release, starting this year, M7M will be working to bring two production lines back into service over a two-year period to compete in the global aluminum market.

Associated Electric Cooperative, the County of New Madrid, the Department of Economic Development, Representative Don Rone, Congressman Jason Smith, the Missouri Governor’s Office and the office of the President of the United States all worked as an economic development team to get the company up and running.

Yearly, M7M will have the capacity to produce nearly 263,000 metric tons of aluminum, and will be one of only seven aluminum smelters in the United States considered to be operational.
