Board Of Regents To Vote On River Campus Expansion

Southeast Missouri State University

Southeast Missouri State University’s Board of Regents will vote on a $23 million building at the River Campus. The new structure would serve two function.

If approved, the four-story, L-shaped building will hold a residence hall and classroom space.

Southeast president Ken Dobbins says the Theatre and Dance and Music programs simply ran out of space.

“With the success of the program, we’ve almost doubled our majors and we needed more practice space and more instruction space and in addition we needed more faculty and practice room space,” Dobbins said.

It will be the first residence hall at the River Campus.  Dobbins says it will feature apartment-style living quarters, a choral rehearsal hall, a dance studio, an art education space and a dining facility.

“We need to have it online by fall of 2014. So that means it has to be finished by July of 2014. So we really need to start building the building probably in early April,” Dobbins said.

Also at the meeting, the board will consider adding additional restrooms at the River Campus Cultural Arts Center. The restrooms will cost approximately $800,000.
