All About Cape: Dog Days of Summer

Visit Cape

We are in the dog days of summer. During this time it is a wonderful opportunity to take a hike on one of the great trail systems in Cape County Park or the Trail of Tears. There you will find that the temperature may be 15 degrees cooler than on the paved parking lot in the middle of town. Keep in mind the theory of cement vs gravel. You know that there has never been a day that you could fry an egg on that flat rock in the woods.

Be sure to make your way to the Cape Riverfront Market, time is winding down for it. The market is more than just a place to get nutritious and delicious fresh food; it’s also the how you can feel the love that was put into the growing of their food. Over the winter it will be missed.

The Fall Muster will take place on September 3 at Fort D. This earthen works fort protected Cape Girardeau from Confederate attack during the Civil War.

For those with pets a visit to Dog Town in Kiwanis Park for some canine friendly fun in the sun. This one acre dog park, offers separate areas for large and small dogs, both of them complete with a tunnel, fire hydrant and doggy water fountain. It’s Cape Girardeau’s premier place for dogs to socialize, play and run off energy.
